Andrew Goldfarb
Andrew Goldfarb has been training martial arts since 1982. Initially motivated by a need to defend himself, he began training Tae Kwon Do at a local dojo. He wrestled during high school and then, during 1987, was introduced to Muay Thai, Lethwei, and Kali (Escrima) under the tutelage of Guro Pat Finley (8th Level Black Belt, Bando, of the American Bando Association). Andrew competed on an amateur level in Kali and Muay Thai in his 20s. He continued his martial arts training throughout the 1990s, being introduced to boxing, judo, and eventually Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
In 2007, Andrew found an instructor associated with Carlson Gracie and began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). His training experience during the 2000s focused primarily on BJJ and MMA. During the early 2010s, he founded a local mixed martial arts academy in Frederick, MD, and continued training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Lethwei, Boxing, and MMA. While at this academy, he earned a purple belt under Professor Vicente Junior (3rd Degree BJJ Black Belt). While at this academy, he served as an MMA and BJJ instructor.
Andrew became co-owner of his own academy in Monrovia, MD, in October 2012. The academy is affiliated with The Pedro Sauer Brazilian Jui-Jitsu Association. During his time at this academy, until he ended his partnership in 2020, he trained and instructed primarily BJJ, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga. In 2017, he was promoted to brown belt by Master Pedro Sauer (8th Degree GJJ Red & Black Belt).
Andrew joined the instructor’s team at the Mount Airy Jiu-Jitsu & MMA (The Mount) Academy in December 2021. He is one of the instructors for the Adult Mixed Martial Arts Programs due to his dedication and knowledge of the various martial arts systems. Although he has trained in other martial arts and self-defense systems, such as Lethwei, Judo, Wrestling, Boxing, and Krav Maga, he currently dedicates most of his time to training and instructing Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ, and self-defense. Additionally, he is working towards achieving his black belt in BJJ at the Mount under Master Bernardo Pitel (5th Degree Black Belt).
Andrew has worked as a forensic evaluator and treatment provider since 1996, focusing on profiling, assessing, and treating persons accused of behavioral crimes. He has operated a private practice, servicing DC, VA, and MD since 2007, and is recognized as an expert in the assessment and treatment of persons with sexual behavior problems both nationally and internationally.
Andrew is married and the father of one son. During his off time, he plays Destiny 2 (PC/XBOX), writes short stories, and cleans up after three cats…. Not necessarily in that order.
