Meet our Instructors - Episode 1 - Professor Guto

Can you share your background and what led you to BJJ?

I started training at my father's gym when I was 11, where the Ryan Gracie team-taught. That’s where I discovered my passion for martial arts and desire to learn self-defense.

How does the philosophy of BJJ influence your approach to teaching BJJ & your daily life?

The philosophy of BJJ greatly influences my approach to teaching and my daily life. I teach my students to value patience, persistence, and mutual respect, which are essential fundamentals on the mat and in life.

What is one of your most memorable experiences on the mat, and what did it teach you?

One of my most memorable experiences on the mat was facing a more experienced opponent during a CBJJE World Championship at Morumbi while I was a blue belt. In the final of the category, I ended up going to sleep during a chokehold and was defeated. Nonetheless, I learned the importance of humility, resilience, and the ability to learn from every challenge. This experience motivated me to work even harder and never give up in adversity.

What do you like about The Mount and its community?

What I like most about The Mount and its community is the welcoming atmosphere. Everyone here is committed to helping each other grow and improve their skills in BJJ. Additionally, we highly value respect and camaraderie among practitioners, creating a positive and motivating environment for everyone!
